Tell MPs about your personal experience with rural lending and the banking system in general.
You may want to include Groundswell's key points:
- It’s too hard for many farmers to get access to credit and, when they do, it’s more expensive than other lending even though there’s no clear difference in costs or risks.
- Counterproductive emissions rules Mandatory Climate Related Disclosures for banks and the Reserve Bank’s higher capital holding requirement for rural lending may be causing banks to charge more and withhold loans.
- Banks can’t keep up with the complex and developing science on emissions, especially agricultural emissions, so they shouldn’t be meddling in emissions policy.

We also encourage you to tell the inquiry about your experiences with rural and other issues with the banking system. It’s only by telling the politicians the full story that we can get the action we need to get a fair deal for food producers and all Kiwis against the banks, lobbyists, and foreign players.
